A Journey Through High School: From Freshman to Senior
High school is a tumultuous period filled with memorable moments that shape young minds. Each year brings a different set of challenges, laughs, and heartaches. From the excitement of making a wine project to the awkwardness of running into a classmate in the elevator, here's a glimpse into the high school years through the eyes of a diligent student.
Freshman Year: The Wine Experiment
The journey begins at the start of freshman year. Despite the challenges of living at home, a significant milestone is achieved when I team up with a roommate to embark on a homebrew wine project. In November, after a bit of research, we decide to attempt our own wine.
Armed with a funnel, jugs of spring water, grape juice concentrate, sugar, and baker's yeast, we head to Aristides to complete our supplies. Two hours later, with the mixture ready, it's time for the fun part: sealing the jugs and waiting for the fermentation process to begin. Our wine took three weeks to ferment and bubble over in the closet, and despite the odd taste, we couldn't resist taking large gulps of it, leading to heartburn and an inevitable round of hangovers. On second thought, we decided to ditch the project and buy wine at Trader Joe's instead.
Sophomore Year: An Unwanted Persistence
The sophomore year was marked by an uncomfortable situation with a classmate who seemed to be persistently interested in me - pestering me to hang out despite my reluctance. His foreign background initially made it easier for me to dismiss his advances, but the awkwardness reached its peak when we had to face him awkwardly in a public setting. This encounter haunted me for weeks after.
Junior Year: Festive Chaos
Junior year brought its fair share of events, but perhaps the most memorable was the grand party we organized before the Christmas break. Dubbed 'All I Want For Christmas Is Booze,' the event didn't quite live up to its hype. My friend and I found ourselves the only ones who were wasted, leading us to don glow-in-the-dark footie pajamas and smoke cigarettes at Ben's Pizza.
The lack of party attendees turned into a night of packing only socks for the trip home. This debacle continued, as I arrived at my parent's house without proper attire, having had to purchase new clothes. These stories showcase the chaotic yet entertaining aspects of junior year.
Senior Year: Nostalgia and Concerts
Senior year brought a return to teenage angst, with a nostalgic attempt to recreate the past. A visit to a Say Anything concert was an ideal setup for a fun yet alcoholic evening. Cheap vodka was our beverage of choice, and we even convinced our taxi driver to pretend we were on the game show Cash Cab, leading to an exciting but informative teenage moment. Sadly, the alcohol consumed meant that I missed half the concert. However, the experience provided a nostalgic moment and, surprisingly, a memorable cab ride.
Each year of high school is a story written with a blend of humor and heartache. From wine-making experiments to awkward encounters and youthful endeavors, the journey is filled with unforgettable moments that define our high school years.
