A Journey Through JEE Advanced 2019: My Personal Experience

Walking into the exam hall on the day of JEE Advanced 2019 was a day filled with both nervousness and calmness. My preparation had been rigorous, and I had set modest expectations for myself. However, as the exam progressed, my confidence fluctuated. This is the account of how I navigated through the paper, the challenges I faced, and how I managed to overcome them.

Preparation and Arrivals

As my exam center was not far from my home, I reached on time without any issues. My day started as usual, and I did not let any stress affect me. I had checked all the necessary documents, including my admit card, valid ID proof, and ball pens. After completing the biometric registration, I felt a wave of confidence wash over me. This was the first test of the day, and it was a win-win situation, especially in the chemistry section.

Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics

Interestingly, the chemistry section was more factual and easy for me. I attempted most of the questions with ease, leaving only two unattempted. However, the mathematics section was tough, particularly the coordinate geometry section. I managed to attempt a few questions, but the pressure grew as time passed, especially during the mathematics section.

Physics remained my strong suit. Despite the initial surprise of easy single correct multiple-choice questions and complex multi-correct ones, I managed to attempt some questions in both categories. It was a rollercoaster of emotions, and my confidence soared and sagged several times during the exam.

A Personal Account

Let me walk you through the day in more detail. I was among the top performers in my coaching class and had secured a leaderboard position of 1995 in the Mains and 419 marks in BITSAT. This meant that I had the potential to secure a top 500 spot. As the day began, I was brimming with confidence, but as time passed, it began to falter.

I reached the center 5 minutes before the reporting time and joined the line of students. As I waited, I encountered two friends from my coaching. We chatted, and hints of top 500 spots were thrown, but my confidence began to wane as the exam approached.

During the biometric registration, I was allotted seat number 67, crucial as the position of your seat indeed matters in an exam. After the formalities, I rested for 20 minutes, which reboosted my confidence and prepared me for the exam.

The Exam Experience

The exam began, and I tackled chemistry first, finding it very easy. However, when I turned to mathematics, I was met with unexpected challenges. The numerical section was particularly tough, and I only managed to solve a few questions. As the time passed, the pressure intensified, and my confidence dipped again.

Then came the physics section, which I had initially counted on to improve my score. However, I was wrong, and the single correct questions were easier, while the multi-correct ones were too complex. The moment of realization struck me, and I wondered if I had not prepared well enough.

The Turning Point

Fortunately, I managed to recover, solving a few questions from my favorite topic, electrostatic. This boost in confidence allowed me to complete the numerical section successfully. I then returned to mathematics, which was not tough but lengthy. Despite the time constraints, I managed to clear the individual cut-off for mathematics.

With just five minutes left, I decided to sleep again, which seemed to help me regain my composure. After the first paper, I went through a two-hour lunch break with my brother. We discussed some questions, which helped clear my mind.

The Second Paper

The second paper arrived, and I approached it with a combination of confidence and caution. My seat, number 20, was at the farthest corner of the lab, making it perfect for concentration in the hot and humid conditions. There was no room for sleep, and I tackled the paper with full concentration, which led to a better performance. After the exam, I came out of the hall smiling, hoping for the best.

Both my parents and brother did not bother me about the paper, and we all went for a movie that night. It was a day filled with a mix of emotions, and I felt content with my performance.

While searching for a decent AIR of 1948, there are no complaints or regrets. This account is a mix of reality and drama, but I can assure you that it's all true.

Conclusion

The journey through JEE Advanced 2019 was a mix of preparation, confidence, and challenges. It is a testament to the rigorous preparation and the ability to manage stress effectively.
