A Personal Journey Through Singing: From Child to Professional
Singing has been a part of my life from the very beginning. As a toddler, I was discovered by my own voice, and it has been a fundamental part of my identity and passion ever since.
A Natural Talent with Little Support
I never had much encouragement from my family; they were simply overwhelmed by the constant chorus of my voice. But the love for singing ran deep within me, and I embraced it wholeheartedly. I believe my family's lack of encouragement stemmed more from a desire to protect them from the monotony of listening to my voice day in and day out.
The Turning Point in High School
By high school, I was naturally receiving praise for my singing. In grade 11, I enrolled in a musical-theatre-focused high school, which further fueled my passion. My talent and reputation in singing began to grow, and I was fortunate enough to start receiving recognition and opportunities. This momentum continued into college, where I majored in voice.
During my time in college and even after graduation, I managed to secure work. This period spanned nearly ten years, during which time I was able to hone my craft and grow as a singer. However, my singing career took a sudden and unexpected turn when I fell ill and lost all my contracts and work opportunities.
The Shifting Dynamics of Performance
Returning to singing has not been easy. I am a very shy person, and the dynamics of live performance have always been a challenge for me. Nonetheless, I am committed to working on improving my performance. While I believe in my natural talent, I do recommend vocal training for beginners to help build confidence and refine their skills.
Just this year, my career seemed to be turning a corner, and I had a decent spring booked. There was a real sense of fulfillment in knowing that my singing career was finally taking shape again after years of downturn. Unfortunately, the pandemic put a stop to all my efforts, and many of my performances were canceled. Now, I am left to wonder what the future holds for my singing journey.
Lessons Learned and Future Aspirations
Through my journey, I have come to understand that perseverance and self-study are the cornerstone of a successful singing career. I spent countless hours studying and learning about the voice, and while I have always believed in my natural talent, I believe that formal training is essential for long-term growth.
My experience has taught me that resilience is key, especially in the face of unexpected setbacks. As I continue to navigate the ups and downs of my singing career, I remain committed to staying true to my passion and working towards my dreams.
So, if you too are passionate about singing, remember that your voice is a gift worth nurturing. With the right guidance, dedication, and support, you can develop into a capable and confident performer.
