A Lifelong Love for Books: Discovering Knowledge and Solace

The Enduring Love for Books: An Irresistible Journey

I have always had a deep love for books, from the days when I was a small boy to the current years, even as I advance in age. This love for literature has been a constant in my life, guiding me through the various stages of my personal and professional journey.

My fascination with books began in my early years of schooling. The stories and lessons in books opened up a plethora of new worlds and ideas that I couldn't explore in the limited curriculum of high school. Books became a gateway to knowledge, a tool that helped me learn far beyond what was taught in my days at school.

Reading Comic Books and Expanding Vocabulary

Interestingly, reading comic books as a child and teenager played a significant role in intensifying my love for books. I would often grab a stack of ten or more comic books at a time and dive into them voraciously. These comic books also helped expand my vocabulary drastically. Words that might have been new to me would prompt me to stop reading and look up their definitions, enhancing my understanding and comprehension. Words used in Stan Lee’s Marvel comics, particularly in characters like Thor and Namor, contributed to making me a smarter, more literate person.

Reading as a Reflection of Personal Characteristics

My current reading habits are a hallmark of my personality. Whenever I enter someone's home, the first thing I look for are books. A collection on a shelf, a table, or a pile in the corner serves as a clear indication that a person enjoys reading. When I don't find books, it leads me to question their literary interests, much like the books in my own bedroom holder that I often read and re-read.

These days, books are often available on Kindles and online platforms. This shift has brought many new possibilities to the realm of reading. However, there is something particularly enjoyable about the physical experience of holding a book and feeling the pages turn between my fingers. The scent of an old book can also bring a sense of relaxation and comfort, reminding me of the deep roots of my love for literature.

Personal Library and Reading Targets

I am a dedicated reader, always carrying a book. It's rare to find me without one. My personal library contains approximately 120 books, a collection that I continue to grow. Interestingly, due to various commitments, I was unable to read any books for the past three years, merely collecting them for when I had the time to read.

Then came the lockdown, presenting a golden opportunity for me to revisit my love for books. I started reading again and even created a Quora space where I review the books I read and offer recommendations to others. In 2021, I set a goal to read at least 25 books, and I am proud to say I have already read 23 books this year. It has been an incredibly fulfilling year filled with the joy and enlightenment of reading.

Concluding Thoughts

Books have always been a doorway to knowledge, exploration, and personal growth. My life is full of stories, and I believe that in a place I hope to go when my life on Earth is over, books would be present too. They have shaped me into the person I am today, and I deeply cherish this love for literature. No matter where life takes me, books will always be a constant companion and source of solace.
