A Rollercoaster Ride: Navigating 10th Grade and Board Exams

As a 10th grader, I found 10th grade to be a challenging and unconventional experience, especially after performing exceptionally well in the 9th grade. My academic performance took a dive during the 9th grade finals due to personal issues at home, leading to a significant drop in my grades. What followed was relentless taunting from classmates, and especially from my friends, which deeply impacted me. This experience forced me to rethink my social and academic life, leading me to reflect on the importance of focusing on one's own happiness.

From Struggles to Academics

Initially, life was a rollercoaster, with multiple ups and downs. My misfortune in 9th grade finals led to a loss of confidence and a deeper sense of isolation. Friends, whom I once considered my everything, now shunned me, leaving me alone in the classroom. This isolation brought about a significant change in my behavior. I became the quiet kid in class, staring out the window and listening to the teacher. The constant taunting hurt me deeply, which made it even more challenging to focus on my studies.

However, the academic journey took a turn when I approached the board exams. Initially, I thought having a multitude of reference books would enhance my knowledge, but I soon realized the value of minimalism. Watching educational videos inspired me to use one reference book per subject and focus on quality over quantity. The summer break proved particularly challenging as I didn't study except for my holiday homework. When school resumed, I decided to focus on homework and coaching, but without the seriousness and discipline needed for a board exam. My half-yearly exams reflected my lack of proper preparation, with a result of around 79.

Visioning the board exams, I set a significant goal: to prepare in 90 days. From mid-November, I devoted myself fully to the revision process. I practiced solved examples extensively and attempted multiple sample question papers. By mid-January, I had completed the syllabus, followed by a thorough revision. As the exams approached, I concentrated on practicing numerous questions rather than focusing on theory. The fear of the examination center made the final few days leading up to the Hindi board exam on February 21 particularly tense. However, once I was in the exam hall, the nervousness disappeared, and the experience went smoothly. The result was a score of 91, which was a pleasant surprise, although the final results have yet to be announced.

Reflection and Future Plans

Reflecting on my journey, I learned several valuable lessons. The importance of not relying on others for my happiness and the need to be self-sufficient became clear. I realized that focusing solely on one's academic performance during the 9th grade could lead to significant setbacks. My experiences taught me the significance of humility, patience, and perseverance. Moving forward, I have decided to pursue physics, chemistry, biology, and physical education in class 11th, driven by a renewed sense of purpose and direction.

If you are preparing for the board exams, here are a few tips:

Start early and maintain a consistent study routine Use quality reference books and practice solved examples Cover the entire syllabus before the exams and revise frequently Practice sample question papers to get familiar with the exam pattern Stay calm and focused during the exam

Wishing you all the best with your board exams. Success is within reach if you stay determined and focused!
