Career Path to Joining the Indian Foreign Service
Joining the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) can be a prestigious and rewarding career for those interested in international diplomacy and relations. Understanding the Indian Foreign Service (IFS)

Once the candidates clear the UPSC examination, they are sent to the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie for the Foundation Course. After completing the Foundation Course, IFS officer trainees are sent to the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) in New Delhi for further specialized training.
One of the critical components of the training process is the Compulsory Foreign Language (CFL) allocation, which is based on the candidate's performance. Trainees must pass the proficiency test conducted by the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) under the Ministry of Defense to continue with further training.
Post Training
After successfully completing the training process, IFS officers are posted as language trainees at Indian Missions abroad, where they will use their CFL skills in their duties.
