Choosing the Best Online Test Series for SSC CGL Tier 1 and Tier 2

Choosing the Best Online Test Series for SSC CGL Tier 1 and Tier 2

Scoring well in the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (SSC CGL) examinations requires consistent practice and the right resources. This article delves into the experience of an aspirant who has used various online test series for both Tier 1 and Tier 2. By examining their effectiveness, we aim to provide valuable insights for future candidates looking to enhance their preparation.

Performance on Tier 1

During Tier 1, I found Gradeup to be particularly useful. The level of their mocks closely aligned with the SSC standards, making them highly relevant for aspirants. Additionally, Gradeup offers sectional tests from previous years, which is a significant advantage as it aids early intervention in weaker areas.

Toprankers is another commendable option. Despite some minor drawbacks, such as leaning towards banking and sometimes having repetitive questions, it still provides a comprehensive practice experience. However, the reasoning section leans more towards banking, which can be a slight disadvantage for those looking for a more diverse practice set.

Performance on Tier 2

For Tier 2, my focus shifted towards specific subjects. For Quantitative Aptitude, I opted for the Adda 247 test series. These mocks, unfortunately, were highly irrelevant and seemed to directly pull questions from Gagan Sir's resources. However, I chose to go with them due to my strategy of preparing for the worst-case scenario, ensuring a better performance on papers that were unpredictable. Toprankers provided more balanced mocks, but they were repetitive, which could be seen as a drawback if you are looking for varied practice.

For English, I relied on Toprankers, which provided a slightly higher level of difficulty compared to the SSC CGL 2017 Mains paper. However, due to my strong performance in English, I did not take as many tests. During my preparation, I also made good use of SSCTube for some weekly tests. While some of these tests were quite challenging, they helped in gauging my overall preparation level.

The Importance of Proper Analysis

A crucial aspect often overlooked in test series preparation is the analysis of mocks. It is of paramount importance that you learn from your mistakes and not just focus on achieving scores or percentiles. Proper analysis not only helps in rectifying errors but also in enhancing time management and test-taking strategies. Always keep in mind that the purpose of these mock tests is to identify areas of improvement, rather than just obtaining high scores.

General Recommendations

Before purchasing any test series, it is essential to practice SSC-related papers from recent years. This practice will familiarize you with the current exam patterns and difficulty levels. After this initial preparation, you can consider test series from reputable providers such as Adda 247, Testbook, Oliveboard, and Gradeup. It is advisable to take at least two test series and focus on thorough analysis and revision over just attempting the mocks.

Remember, the key to success in the SSC CGL exam is a balanced approach that combines regular practice, thorough analysis, and strategic preparation. Whether you choose one provider or multiple, make sure to leverage live tests as they offer a realistic evaluation of your preparation level.
