These days, registration and payment are seamlessly integrated through a single database, which also handles grading. Starting from the beginning of any academic term, students have approximately 10 business days to arrange payments for the term.
If the payment is not made, the student will not be registered, and this affects several aspects of their academic experience. Whether the payment is made by the student themselves, a sponsor, or a lender, it is crucial to ensure payment is received by the deadline.
Impact on Academic Records and Grades
Instructors typically do not know students personally, but they rely on the database to grade assignments, tests, and midterm exams. If a student is not registered, their student number will not be listed in the system, and thus no grades will be recorded in the single database. When graded work is returned to the class, instructors may inquire about unregistered students.
If a student frequently submits work for grading while unregistered, they may face anger from instructors. Lectures are often large sessions where anonymity is possible, but for labs or performance-based evaluations, such as music, there is no hiding. Unregistered students can be charged with trespassing if they cause problems.
Concerns for Foreign Students
Foreign students who fail to pay their fees can have their student visas revoked, which is a serious matter leading to immediate departure or potential legal issues. The university system is designed to monitor payments, ensuring that no money means no classes. For students, this is taken extremely seriously.
Devices like computers are used to notify teachers if a student hasn't paid tuition and/or required fees. While the university attempts to collect these fees, students who fail to pay will eventually be banned from classes, leading to the withholding of grade reports and transcripts. They also risk not passing the classes or graduating.
