Preparing for the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MHT CET) requires a unique set of skills and strategies, especially if you are looking to secure a good rank. Unlike the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), the MHT CET does not have negative marking, but it does require a considerable amount of time management, especially given its format. The MHT CET is a crucial exam for students aspiring to pursue engineering or pharmacy from prestigious institutes in the state of Maharashtra. The exam consists of three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, each with a significant weightage in the overall score.

My performance ranged from a high of 165 to a low of 138, but this range helped me gauge my strengths and weaknesses. Despite my initial anxiety, I managed to score well and was admitted to S.P.I.T, a reputable college.
Subject-wise Breakdown
Physics
Physics questions in the MHT CET range from brain-dead easy to moderately challenging. Mechanics and thermodynamics were particularly important, as numerous questions appeared in these topics. Regular practice with books like HCV (Higher Concepts of Physics) and previous year’s question papers helped me excel in these areas.
Chemistry
Organic chemistry posed a challenge due to its complexity. However, focusing on practice question papers (PYQ) and the book by MS Chouhan (for organic chemistry) and sticking to the NCERT for inorganic and physical chemistry did help me manage it better.
Mathematics
Mathematics was a significant challenge, as I was uncertain about the exam pattern. Given the structure of the MHT CET, where you cannot switch between subjects, managing my time effectively was key. Calculus, complex numbers, and arithmetic progressions proved to be important, and dedicated practice sessions helped me cover these topics well.
