Eliminating Anxious Thoughts Through Service to Others
Constantly anxious about the smallest of incidents, I have been influenced by my anxious mother's cognitive programming. As a child, I was indoctrinated to fear almost everything. However, akin to breaking free from a toxic web, I discovered a pathway to liberation through the lens of Christianity. According to my understanding, anxiety is not merely a result of heightened worry but a sin that stems from a lack of trust in God's promises and a refusal to live in God's kingdom.
The Role of Anxiety as a Sin
Christian Perspective: Through the doctrine of sin, anxiety is considered a transgression. In many cases, it is rationalized as unfounded worry that stems from the abuse of our creative imagination, our ability to dream and conjure personal realities, whether constructive or detrimental. The Bible teaches that God desires His children to be free from fear and anxiety, emphasizing the importance of faith and trust in His promises. He insists on the belief that by acting bravely, even in the face of fear, we can overcome our anxieties.
Addressing Anxiety Through Deed
People can overcome anxiety by engaging in actions that benefit others, particularly those who are strangers. While it is true that we owe obligations to our families and close relatives, true transformation occurs through acts of altruism aimed at strangers. Such actions force us to utilize our intellect and emotions in a way that diverts anxious thoughts from their usual attachment to self-benefit. By focusing on the benefit of others, we can rewire our thought patterns and redirect our fears into constructive actions.
The Ripple Effect of Serving Others
Humanity's potential lies in the capacity to serve others unselfishly, which is not only an individual obligation but a communal one. As our circle of concern widens, gradually embracing the entire planet and humanity, our anxious thoughts diminish. Anxiety is fundamentally a result of our narrow focus on self, and by broadening our perspective to include the well-being of others, we can alleviate our anxieties.
Shared Wisdom
These insights were shared in the context of KabTV’s “News with Dr. Michael Laitman” by Kabbalist Dr. Michael Laitman and Semion Vinokur on February 19, 2024. Students of Dr. Michael Laitman further ued and edited the content to provide a pathway to overcoming anxiety through service and faith.
Conclusion
In conclusion, breaking free from the grip of anxiety requires a shift in focus from self to others. By recognizing that anxiety is a sin that separates us from God's power, we can embark on a journey of transformation through faith, service, and love. As we practice acts of kindness and compassion, we can gradually diminish our anxious thoughts and enhance our spiritual growth.
