Engaging with Your Higher Self: Exploring Dialogues Without Losing Anything
God is a fascinating concept that has long captivated the human imagination. Many believe God is an external entity or a deity beyond our comprehension, but what if I told you that engaging with God is simply a matter of connecting with your own higher self?
God as a Concept
Has it ever occurred to you that God is a creation of one's own mind and not an external entity or some kind of deity? Reflecting on this, you will surely lose nothing if you have a dialogue with yourself and embrace the idea of a self-believed God. This conversation will be real and meaningful, providing inspiration and spiritual stimulus.
When you talk with your higher self, you communicate with the absolute and surrendered belief in a higher power that exists within you. You cannot hide from yourself, as you are talking to your true self. This exploration can be seen as an illusion, as experienced by many great souls on their spiritual paths. For instance, Ramakrishna Paramhamsa recognized and transcended this illusion towards the end of his life, marking a significant event on his spiritual journey.
A Two-Way Conversation
Talking with God implies a two-way conversation. For most of us, talking to God is more realistic. Connecting with God through dialogue can lead to purification. Sri Isopanisad describes the Lord as suddham (antiseptic) and apapa-viddham (prophylactic). An impure thing can become purified just by touching Him.
The Purport to Isopanishad mantra 8 reinforces this idea, stating that one God is the creator of everything, having no religion, neither born nor dead, and He is Supreme living everywhere in everybody. You can talk to Him, pray to Him, and chant Waheguru Waheguru in your mind.
God perceives and directs every thought. He is that formless mind that has embodied our soul. Engaging with your higher self through this kind of dialogue is essential to understanding and communicating with the deeper aspects of your existence.
Dealing with Imaginary Friends
It is important to address the fear of connecting with an imaginary friend. Engaging in a genuine conversation with your higher self is not a trap. It is an essential part of your spiritual journey. If you cannot find a way to communicate with other people, perhaps it is time to focus on reaching your inner self. The higher self is always present and real.
Awe and Spiritual Awareness
The original questioner is not far from the truth. God allows us to pray and engage in conversation. The creator of the universe, stronger than all its contents, allows us to have a dialogue despite the immense difference between us. This is a profound reminder of our connection to something greater than ourselves.
However, we often approach prayer from a mundane perspective. The account in Isaiah 6:1–5, as paraphrased by the dramatic The Message, vividly describes the awe and reverence that God inspires. The text paints a picture of the divine throne and the angel-seraphim, emphasizing the purity and reverence of God.
It is important to maintain a sense of awe and respect. In the past, people went to places like Niagara Falls to feel the power and realize their own insignificance. Today, we only take sight-seeing trips. The term “Your Worship” once meant “You are worthy of having respect.” God allows us to say our minds and live our lives with a connection to the divine.
