Experiences and Insights from the KVPY SA Exam: Two Candidate Stories
The KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana) Scholarship Programme is a competitive exam for students pursuing science and engineering at the undergraduate level. This article shares insights and experiences from two candidates who participated in the KVPY SA exam, highlighting their preparation, performance, and reflections.
Unique Experience: A First-Time CBT Participant
This year, I had a unique experience attempting the KVPY SA exam for the first time without any preparation. The exam was a Computer-Based Test (CBT), which added a new dimension to my experience. My scores in each section were quite diverse, illustrating the varied difficulty levels faced by participants.
Mathematics
I felt that the mathematics section was quite challenging as I had not practiced much. The level of questions was higher than the JEE Mains. Despite this, I managed to attempt the questions to the best of my abilities.
Biology
The biology section was easier for me, but I struggled with the 12th-grade portion as I was still in 11th standard at the time and had not started my 12th-grade syllabus. My score came out to be 32/100, and unfortunately, I did not qualify for the interview.
Physics
Physics was a moderate difficulty according to KVPY standards, but I ended up overattemptsing some questions that I felt were of lower class level but were actually of higher class level. This led to a lower score in this section.
The chemistry section was moderate to tough, and it was a subject I was relatively weaker in. I encountered confusion in the organic section, but I managed to attempt only 11th-grade physical and organic chemistry questions.
Remarkable Experience: Unprepared but Lucky
This experience is quite different from my first attempt. Despite not having prepared at all for the exam, I studied for a single day before the exam. After going through past year papers, I predicted that the exam would be challenging, but it turned out to be less so than expected. Here are my reflections on each subject.
Mathematics
Mathematics was moderate but not too difficult. However, the second part of the paper was a bit problematic. My score in mathematics was around 32/60.
Physics
The physics portion was way easier than I had anticipated. All the problems came from optics, and I was relieved that I could solve them using class 10 concepts.
Chemistry
Chemistry was also easier than I had expected, with no challenging organic sums coming up. My score in this section was around 30/60. Overall, I am happy with my scores and I believe that anything above 40 would be a good result.
Biology
Biology was a mixed experience. I made some silly mistakes in part 1 but performed better in part 2. My score in biology was around 21/60.
Insights and Reflections: A JEEDesiring Student's Perspective
As a JEE aspirant, I did not prepare much for KVPY SA, but I did allocate some time for it. Here are my reflections on my performance in the exam:
Mathematics
Contrary to what others may suggest, mathematics was relatively easy for me. However, I struggled with part 2 of the mathematics section.
Physics
Physics was extremely challenging, as I only knew about mechanics, and only two questions from this topic came in the exam.
Biology
In biology, I was well-prepared for part 2, but I made some mistakes in part 1. My scores in each section were as follows:
Mathematics: 17.25 Physics: 6.75 Biology: 13.5 Chemistry: 10.25Given these scores, my chances of qualifying are quite slim, and I understand that the odds are highly unfavorable.
Concluding Thoughts
Through these candidate stories, we can see the diverse experiences participants had with the KVPY SA exam. Whether well-prepared or last-minute studying, the exam presents unique challenges for each participant. It is important for aspiring students to understand the different difficulties in each subject and to manage their time effectively while preparing for such rigorous exams.
