A Personal Perspective
As a Visual Communication graduate, my interest was in fashion. I was forced to take this course because it was the only creative stream available at the time. My parents insisted on this course because they wanted me to study at the college they preferred. However, this decision turned out to be beneficial in several ways. I learned a lot about aesthetics, photography, digital marketing, and editing, which helped me explore my interest in fashion further.
I am not sad that I was forced into it; rather, I view it as an opportunity to explore other things. I did not follow the same stream after graduation. I interned under a photographer, did part-time jobs as a host and volunteered at events during my final year. I also worked as a visual merchandiser at a travel and tour company for a while and part-time at Tommy Hilfiger as a customer relations officer. After my master's degree in fashion designing, I was promoted as a store manager at Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein, as they operate under the same roof in India.
Ultimately, I dropped out of my master's program and followed my passion by specializing in fashion styling using Instagram as my platform. I also took over my father’s business. The key takeaway is to follow what enlightens you. It truly depends on your interests. Try various things while you’re young and never regret anything in life.
