Exploring the Food Scene at BITS Hyderabad and Goa Campuses

I am currently a student at BITS Goa, and while the campus offers a wide variety of dining options, the quality and variety of food can vary greatly. In this article, we will dive into the distinctive food scenes at both the BITS Hyderabad and BITS Goa campuses, helping you understand what to expect.

Food in BITS Goa: D Mess and Beyond

When you first arrive at BITS Goa as a fresher, you will be assigned to the D Mess, the most modern mess hall on campus. This mess offers a diverse and interesting menu, featuring dishes from all over India, allowing you to experience a culinary journey through the country's regional cuisines.

Regular Mess Days

The mess menu at BITS Goa is quite comprehensive. You can expect a range of items, from traditional Indian dishes like dal maharashtr, samosas, and chhole bhature to continental options such as pasta and burgers. Additional snack items, such as samosas, pakoras, and snacks, are available for Rs 25 per item. While the overall quality is #39;average#39; and the variety can be managed, some dishes stand out for their exceptional taste.

Chhole Bhature and Other Favorites

Among the standout dishes, my personal fave is the Chhole Bhature. It is a perfect blend of spiciness and tanginess that is both hearty and satisfying. If you are a fan of traditional Indian street food, this is the dish to try. Other favorites in the menu include palak paneer, methi gatta, and biryani, each offering a unique taste and aroma.

Night Canteen: A Late-Night Dining Experience

For those who prefer a later meal, BITS Goa also has a Night Canteen that operates from 11 PM to 1:45 AM. This provides a different style of cuisine, with dishes like biryani, maggi, and chicken snacks. The quality of these items is generally considered to be much better than that in the regular mess and the prices are reasonably priced.

On-Campus Eateries for Variety

In addition to the main mess and night canteen, BITS Goa offers a variety of on-campus eateries. Within the campus, you can find places like Ice and Spice in the A wing, which is perfect for a quick bite of shawarmas and nimbu paani. Across the campus, in the C wing, Food King offers dosas, parathas, and maggi. It’s a great spot if you are looking for something more substantial and different from the mess.

Other Campus Food Options

In the main building, you can find a Nescafe stall in the basement that provides a range of coffee and tea options. Behind the library, there is an Amul outlet where you can enjoy a variety of ice creams and cold drinks. Nearby, Sub Spot is a favorite among students, offering a range of sandwiches similar to what you might find at a Subway. These eateries provide a refreshing change and much-needed breaks from the regular mess fare.

Conclusion

To conclude, while the food at BITS Goa may not be the most luxurious or finest in the world, there are plenty of options to satisfy your taste buds. Whether you prefer traditional Indian dishes, continental options, or something in between, the variety in the mess and on-campus eateries ensures that you never get tired of the same old meals. So, if you’re looking for a diverse and neutral food experience, BITS Goa’s cuisines might just be what you need.
