Interview Experience at BYJU'S: A Thorough Account of the Application Journey
Passing through the rigors of the job market requires resilience, preparation, and a great deal of understanding of the process at various stages. My experience as a candidate in the Business Development Associate position with BYJU'S provides a comprehensive view of the entire process, from the initial phone call to the final interview slot.
The Application Process
I applied for the Business Development Associate position at BYJU'S in May 2020. The journey was composed of three rounds: an initial phone call, a video call via Zoom, and the final Zoom call for the Business Development Associate role. Each round demanded a different level of preparation and provided unique insights into the company's expectations and the job's requirements.
First Round: The Initial Interview
The first round lasted 29 minutes and took place via phone call. Due to the rain and my car journey, I faced some challenges in giving the interview. However, the interviewer was understanding and informed me that I was shortlisted for the next round.
What can you tell us about yourself?
Why sales?
Why this job after graduating as an engineer?
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Are you willing to work 10-12 hours a day?
Sell me BYJU'S tablet to a 6th class parent.
What are your hobbies?
Second Round: The Comprehensive Video Interview
The second round escalated with a 27-minute Zoom video call. The interviewer was impressed but posed more challenging questions.
Who are you?
Difference between sales and marketing.
Have you applied to any other companies?
What will you do if chosen?
Why would you join a stressful job?
Are you comfortable with relocation?
Sell a newspaper.
Sell a stapler.
Sell a Redmi phone to an iPhone user.
Third Round: The Final Video Call
The final round was a rapid 14-minute Zoom call, where the interviewer was not entirely engaged, showing a questionable behavior of not being attentive. Despite my preparation, the call was hurried, and the interviewer seemed distracted.
How were your last two interviews?
Have you applied anywhere else?
What would you do if not selected?
Sell me earphones.
Why sales after computer science engineering?
Tell me about your family.
Can you relocate?
If you love BYJU'S, why have you applied elsewhere?
Why are you lying when you are selected?
The Interview Outcome and Reflection
Results were received in 23 hours, and the news was not as expected - I was not selected. Although the final round interview was quite frustrating, I have the insight to understand the process better:
Long story short: Applied in BYJU'S in May 2020, but got rejected in the second round. After three months, made a serious attempt and got shortlisted for the interview but was not selected in the end. Lesson: This journey of securing a job is easier than it seems, even if you don't get selected. The final round interviewer's behavior was a contributing factor to the outcome. When you deal with a lot of work, you might not always engage fully. Advice: Be prepared and answer with confidence; you will definitely get a job! All the best.
