Is It Possible to Ace BITS Pilani CS Branch with Relatively Low JEE Mains Scores?
Yes, there is a case for anyone who scored less than or around 150 in the JEE Mains and still made it to the prestigious BITS Pilani Computer Science (CS) branch. Let me share my experience and the stories of my friends to back this claim.
My Experience and Journey
I scored 105 out of 360 in JEE Mains 2018 and 280 in the BITSAT. Consequently, I enrolled in the MSc Mathematics program at the Goa campus. However, in my first year, I managed to secure a CGPA of 8.6, which helped me secure a B.E. CS dual degree. Therefore, it is clear that it is always possible to recover and achieve your goals, even with lower JEE Mains scores. If you have any doubts, feel free to message me.
Say Hello to My Friends
One of my friends scored only 30 marks in JEE Mains 2018 and 275 in the BITSAT. Despite his low JEE Mains score, he managed to get admission to the Goa campus. However, he was unable to secure a place in the Pilani campus, as it is more competitive.
Another friend scored around 10,000 in JEE Mains but only 250 in the BITSAT. This illustrates that cracking BITS at Pilani is more about speed and exam strategy, whereas JEE Mains is more about understanding concepts deeply.
The Role of Hard Work and Concept Clarity
While the observation that most candidates who clear the BITSAT have already qualified JEE Mains is valid, it is important to note that many don't get their preferred branch or may have performed poorly in JEE Advance. However, with hard work and a clear understanding of concepts, anything is achievable.
To give you some perspective, I know several toppers from board exams and day scholars who made it into the three prestigious campuses of BITS despite not performing well in JEE Mains. Every individual's journey is unique, but the key is to put in the effort and stay focused.
Exams Comparison and Preparatory Tips
It's crucial to understand that the IIT JEE and BITSAT are different exams with varying levels of difficulty and time management requirements. The BITSAT is generally easier compared to the IIT JEE. Also, screwing up JEE can serve as a self-evaluation tool and motivate you to perform better in the BITSAT. Many students who didn't qualify for IITs still managed to secure their preferred branches at BITS.
For BITSAT, I recommend starting with previous year's question papers and mock exams. This will help you build a strong foundation and improve your speed and accuracy.
Student Stories and Successes
Another friend of mine, who didn't clear the IIT JEE but managed to secure computer science in the Pilani campus, is a testament to the fact that you can achieve your goals with hard work and determination. Don't compare your performance directly with other exams because they offer different types of challenges.
Finally, I can personally attest to seeing numerous cases where individuals with lower JEE Mains scores successfully made it into BITS. Bit by bit, with consistent effort and a positive mindset, you can achieve your goals. Keep your head up and believe in yourself. BITS awaits you!
