Is Studying for 16 Hours a Day Enough for the NEET Exam? My Personal Experience and Study Strategy

Qualification: Qualified NEET 2024 with AIR 1344 and Score 700.

This article delves into the pivotal elements of my NEET exam preparation, highlighting the effectiveness of a 16-hour daily study regimen, specifying the breakdown of study hours, and providing strategic insights into how to allocate time effectively among the various subjects.

My Study Hours Throughout the Preparation Period

My study routine varied significantly depending on the phase of preparation. Initially during my 11th grade, I dedicated approximately 8 to 9 hours to self-study daily, excluding the time spent in coaching classes. However, on Sundays and holidays, I extended this to about 12 to 13 hours. As I progressed into my 12th grade and focused on completing the syllabus, my daily study time remained consistent at 12 to 13 hours, up until the completion of the syllabus.

As the NEET exam approached and with only 5 months left, I increased my daily study to roughly 14 hours. To maximize my preparation, in the last 1.5 months especially, I extended my study hours to 15 to 16 hours daily. It is essential to emphasize that, alongside the number of hours, the quality of study is equally important.

Subject-Wise Time Allocation

During my preparation, I identified my strengths and weaknesses across Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. My biology was strong, physics was moderate, and chemistry was my weakest subject. Based on this, I allocated more time to the subjects where I felt less confident. Here’s the distribution of my study hours:

If I spent 9 hours on self-study:

2.5 hours - biology 3 hours - physics 3.5 hours - chemistry

Feel free to adjust this based on your own weak and strong topics/subjects and the number of hours you are studying.

Conclusion

My experience underscores the importance of consistent and targeted study. By balancing the rigorous study hours with quality study, I was able to achieve a top rank in the NEET exam. This approach may not work for everyone, but it serves as a valuable reference for those preparing for the NEET.

Everyone’s preparation journey is unique, so it's crucial to tailor the study schedule to personal strengths and weaknesses. Whether you're aiming for 16 hours a day or a more moderate schedule, the key is consistency and adapting your strategy to maximize your strengths while addressing your weaknesses.
