Is There a Logical Reason to Be Compassionate?

Logical I could contrive a somewhat convincing logical explanation but it doesn’t feel right. I think if we try to rationalize it, it becomes kind of scripted.

Does society have a reason to be compassionate? I see one action that may be considered as containing the same amount of ethicoconduct as another, because I believe that each action has no moral basis whatsoever! So, I have no driving factor to be compassionate, and if I am, it may just be for my own reasons, because we live in a randomnessnihilistic world based on randomness. No logic or moral is better than another, but we can favor one over the other. In this world, kindness has no purpose.

It is like asking why should I be humane. So why would I want to live my humanity? Tough question.

Reasons to Be Compassionate

There are many reasons. Let's start with my three favorites:

It improves the world. When you show compassion, you contribute to creating a better and more harmonious environment. This not only benefits society but also enhances the overall well-being of the community.

It improves your experience of the world. Practicing compassion can enrich your own life, making it more fulfilling and meaningful. It helps you see the world through a different lens, one that is more attuned to the needs and feelings of others.

It is the most effective way to feel joy. Compassion isn't just about making others happy; it can lead to your own happiness. Research has shown that being kind and compassionate improves one's own emotional and mental health.

Besides, unless of course your goal is the extinction of the entire human race, in which case compassion is probably not very helpful, it serves as a valuable tool for achieving a wide variety of goals.

Why Be Kind?

Because it is nice.

Really. That is it. However, if you are being nice, people will like you more. From there, you can build friendships and relationships with people, improving your life as a whole.

Being compassionate is not even slightly for the other person. As you create your own reality from the inside out, compassion is for you. It fertilizes your inner garden. Hate, indifference, and other negative emotions harm the potential beauty of your inner land.

Compassion is totally selfish. It is about nurturing your own well-being and happiness by treating others with kindness and understanding.

Free Will and Reality

Do you believe that our reality comes from outside of us, making us victims of capriciousness dictated by the whims of others with no free will?

Personally, I don't. If you don’t feel like you should, then don't. One day something fucked will happen to you, and nobody gives a fuck. The only thing they will remember is that you were condescending, mean, cold, and maybe even laughed at their misfortune.

With your hand out begging for help, they might laugh at you, and you'll wonder where their compassion for you went. But the answer won't come to you at the time.

The fact of the matter is that you stole theirs.

Compassion and Mutual Care

People are compassionate because they care about others. If you don't care about others, then do whatever you want. Just don't expect anyone to care when life goes to shit for you.

Compassion is a powerful force that can change the course of lives, relationships, and even the fabric of society. It provides a framework for understanding, empathy, and mutual care, which are essential for a harmonious and fulfilling existence.
