MBBS Admission Scam: Latest NEET UG 2023 Fraudulent Practices

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for Undergraduate (UG)medical education has become a prime target for fraudulent practices related to medical school admissions. A recent incident involving two women from Rajasthan and Haryana has shed light on the ongoing scam in the realm of MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) admissions.

Case Background

Two bright students, one from Churu in Rajasthan and the other from Charkhi Dadri in Haryana, were preparing for their NEET UG 2023 exams in Sikar, Rajasthan. Both students had been searching for medical colleges where they could secure a spot in the MBBS course. Unfortunately, their search led them to a fraudulent employment office, which promised them admission to Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Medical Science College in Durgapur, West Bengal.

How the Fraud Was Executed

The women approached the Sankalp Employment Office located in Space Eye Tech Tower in Sector 49 of Gurugram, which had been posing as a legitimate employment service. Upon meeting with three men at the firm’s office, the victims were led to believe that secure admission to their desired medical college was possible. The scammers demanded Rs 45.56 lakh in commission for their services.

During the fraudulent agreement, the victims presented two cheques of Rs 6 lakh each. They were instructed to proceed to the college on September 30 for admission. Prior to this visit, they were also asked to remit Rs 15 lakh each in cash to the office. The scammer's promise was that they would secure their admission on the day of the visit.

Discovery of the Fraud

When the victims arrived at the college on September 30, they were informed that no such admissions were taking place. In a desperate attempt to secure their medical education, they returned to Gurugram and visited the Sankalp office. However, they found the office to be locked, indicating that the scammers had disappeared with their hard-earned money. This stark betrayal left the victims both financially and emotionally drained, their chances of securing an MBBS seat in jeopardy.

Consequences and Lessons Learned

The incident highlights the importance of being vigilant and cautious when dealing with offers of medical school admissions. It is crucial to verify the legitimacy of any entity promising such services through official channels and local authorities. Additionally, the scammers involved in such activities should be reported to the nearest police station, and legal actions should be taken to recover the stolen funds.

Preventive Measures for Aspiring Medical Students

Verify the authenticity of any employment or admission office before engaging with them. Approach official medical college authorities directly for admission procedures. Be wary of offers that promise quick and guaranteed admission and involve significant financial outlays. Seek advice from trusted mentors, counselors, or guidance from reliable educational institutions.

Through awareness and careful scrutiny, future aspirants can avoid falling victim to similar fraudulent practices and ensure a fair and transparent process in their pursuit of a medical education.

Conclusion

The recent MBBS admission scam in NEET UG 2023 is a stark reminder of the persistent efforts by fraudulent entities to exploit the aspirations of young medical students. It is essential to remain vigilant, seek guidance from reliable sources, and report suspicious activities to the authorities immediately. By doing so, we can help prevent such unethical practices and ensure a level playing field for all aspiring medical professionals.
