My AFMC MBBS Screening 2018 Experience
My journey to the 2018 AFMC MBBS Screening was filled with excitement and anticipation, marking a significant milestone in my academic and professional aspirations. This process, both rigorous and memorable, laid the groundwork for what would eventually become an invaluable chapter in my life.
Day One: Preparation and Tests
The first day began with a thorough document verification, followed by the collection of blood and urine samples. We were then directed to the Ashoka Chakra Library building for the TOEFL Reading and Listening (TOEFL RL) test and the Psychological Assessment Test. Throughout the day, refreshments were offered from a wet canteen and a shop situated within the Admission Waiting Area.
Moving around the campus was one of the highlights of the day, as the heritage buildings and sports facilities left a lasting impression on me. I particularly marveled at the state-of-the-art facilities and the rich history housed within the extensive grounds of the institute.
The pre-interview session with Brigadier was a crucial part of the day. He reviewed my extracurricular activities, which were essential for my profile. Activities like NCC and sports representation carried significant advantages during the interview process.
The Interview Day
The second day kicked off with the academic interview from 08:15 hrs. Our batch was bustling with nervousness, but the interview process was remarkably smooth. The panel, composed of officers in complete military uniform, made the experience feel professional yet welcoming.
Interviews covered a wide range of topics, from hobbies to reasons for choosing AFMC. Practical demonstrations and follow-up questions, like singing after mentioning tabla-playing, added a unique touch to the evaluation process. Despite being apprehensive, the environment was supportive, making the experience much more bearable.
Medical Examination and Results
The most crucial part of the screening process was the medical examination. Physical and psychological assessments were conducted, during which I was advised to reduce my weight. A pulmonary function test (PFT) was necessary due to a childhood respiratory issue, which led me to visit the physiology department.
Eye tests and ENT examinations were conducted, and there was a minor complication when two candidates had to have ear wax removed, which was a bit unsettling. The reports were submitted to the medical board, which would decide on the fitness of the candidates. Despite my nervousness about being overweight, I was ultimately declared medically fit.
After the interviews and medical examinations, Lt Colonel Chaturvedi sir briefed the medically fit candidates. The experience culminated in a sense of accomplishment and relief as the medically fit candidates left the campus, while the others continued their wait.
The next phase of waiting for the results was nerve-wracking. I had followed the progress of the final list on the AFMC website frequently, eager for the news to confirm my selection. When I saw my name 30th on the boys' merit list, the joy was palpable. Joining AFMC was the dream come true, and the journey ahead was a source of immense excitement.
Looking ahead, I am confident that my days at AFMC will be some of the best of my life. This experience has not only solidified my choice of career but also marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter in my professional journey as a future military doctor.
