My First Day at Medical College Kolkata: A Memorable Experience
Introduction
As a medical student at the prestigious Medical College Kolkata, every day carries its own unique joy and challenges. However, none compare to the first day, which remains one of the most memorable days in my life.
Orientation and Canteen Hopping
At 5 AM on my first day, I woke up, a stark contrast to my usual sleeping hours. I was assigned to Maniktala Hostel, just a 2-kilometer distance from the college premises. The orientation program was set to begin at 9 AM, which allowed us a considerable amount of time to prepare.
With some of my roommates, I reached the college around 8 AM. A senior in our batch guided us, sharing that the senior-junior relationship at RGKMCH (Residency Graduate Postgraduate Medical College and Hospital) is quite special. We were shown to our respective departmental canteens, and had a taste of the legendary NimbuPaani from Narmada canteen. The senior paid the bills, further cementing the bond between us.
Academic Initiation and Admiration
Upon entering the LT (Laboratory Teaching) room in PJB (Pollution Biomedical Journal Building), I took the last bench. There, I noticed the same girl whom I had seen during the verification process. She caught my eye for her stunning beauty. I mentioned it to my roommates, joking about her being like a princess but advised not to look at her frequently.
As professors, deans, principals, and HODs from various departments began their speeches, motivating and congratulating us, the atmosphere was charged with a sense of anticipation and hope for the future. From the back, a student stood up and started speaking. Roommates, from a distance, shouted, "Boudi, Boudi!" Startled, I realized this was the girl.
Memories and Reflections
Seniors congratulated us and shared anecdotes about the college life, particularly referring to the phrase "Khalu." We spent the day visiting our academic buildings, emergency buildings, and the PJB, followed by lunch at DC (Dining Centre). We tasted different foods from various canteens before heading back to the hostel.
Before returning to the hostel, I decided to follow the girl I admired to the OPD (Outpatient Department). Though I wanted to talk to her, I couldn't muster the courage. This brief encounter became a significant memory, marking the start of a new era of my life - the college life.
Pride and Aspirations
That day marked the beginning of the path to my dream destiny as a medical professional. The memories of that first day at Khalpar persist, proving my commitment and passion for the field. I am immensely proud to be part of the KHALU (Khalpar) family. Reflecting on this journey, I am filled with a sense of pride and anticipation for what lies ahead.
Thank you for sharing this significant moment with me. Here's to a successful journey towards the medical field and the lifelong bond with my fellow KHALU students.
Long live KHALPAR!
