My Greatest Teachers: Those Who Transformed My Life
Throughout my life, I have had several influential figures who have played pivotal roles in shaping my character and guiding my journey. Among them are my parents, a beloved teacher from my childhood, and an esteemed professor from my post-secondary years. Each of these mentors left an indelible mark on my life, instilling valuable lessons and guiding principles that continue to influence me today.
The Influence of My Parents
My parents, particularly my father, have been constant sources of inspiration and guidance. My father was not only my role model during childhood but continues to be so even now, despite his passing 47 years ago. His teachings and values have stayed with me, instilling in me a strong sense of integrity, dedication, and perseverance. Though I have a deep love for my mother, my father's wisdom and counsel have been the cornerstone of my personal and professional endeavors.
The Early Years: Zappa’s Guruji
My academic journey was kickstarted by Zappa’s Guruji, my teacher in fourth standard at Adarsh Vidyalaya in Vasai. Guruji, as I fondly called him, was more than just a teacher; he was a dedicated mentor and a role model. He instilled tremendous confidence in me, which was palpable in my performance. I not only stood first in the Thane District of the erstwhile Bombay State during the year 1956 but also achieved first place in the entire state of Bombay! This success was a testament to his unwavering dedication and the pedagogical skills that made me embrace learning with enthusiasm and confidence.
The Middle Years: The Head Master
My middle school years were further enhanced by the guidance of a teacher at Kurvey’s New Model High School in Nagpur. He was also the Head Master of the institution, and despite his authority, he never displayed anger or harshness, whether towards students or teachers. This approach left a lasting impression on me and taught me the value of patience, understanding, and empathy. Unfortunately, I was never able to fully emulate this trait in myself, but it remains a constant reminder to remain composed and level-headed.
The Road to Success: Rustum Davar
The final chapter in shaping my life was under the guidance of Professor Rustum Davar during my DBM (Diploma in Business Management) course in Bombay. Rustum was not only an exceptional teacher but an inspiring figure who imparted invaluable wisdom. He instructed us in General Management and introduced us to the 'mantra of six Ws and one H.' He emphasized that armed with this knowledge, we could manage any task, project, or company, and succeed in whatever we undertook. This lesson resonated deeply with me and became a guiding principle in my career.
This framework has guided my path, enabling me to work across various fields of company management, except for the account department, as he had instructed. Every step of the way, I have followed the path he laid out, finding success and fulfillment in my professional life.
A Never-Ending Journey
Even at the age of 76, I feel as enthusiastic and motivated as I did fifty-five years ago. These mentors have kept me grounded and driven, ensuring that I continue to strive for excellence. Currently, I am also pursuing a three-year degree course in Naturopathy and Yoga. My intention is to soon complete this third and final year in December 2023, after which I plan to open my own Naturopathy and Yoga Clinic in Nagpur.
I would like to extend my gratitude to Preeti Prabha for asking such a meaningful question, which has brought to the forefront the remarkable influences in my life.
