My JEE Advanced 2022 Prep Journey: A Detailed Analysis and Reflection

My JEE Advanced 2022 Prep Journey: A Detailed Analysis and Reflection

Introduction

Well, I don't know!! Just kidding. While I got trapped in the coaching business, I fought till the very last second of Paper 2. I'm not sure what the results will be, but I have put in my best efforts. I'd like to share some insights into my preparation journey for JEE Advanced 2022, along with a few images that symbolize my journey.

Financial Investment and Commitment

The total investments I made in preparation were highly significant. It's an understatement to say that the investments made by my parents played a crucial role in my success. The pens I used in one year of preparation speak volumes; many were lost, but these are the symbols of the countless hours spent solving and writing. The short notes I compiled in the last six months, made a day before JEE Advanced for revision, were invaluable.

My Mistake Copy

A book of the year award goes to a borrowed resource that I acquired just a month before JEE Advanced. It was one of the best decisions I made. However, a copy of the year trophy goes to my mistake copy. In this, I documented all important concepts and mistakes I made while solving advanced practice questions in the last two months. This aided me greatly in identifying and overcoming weak areas.

Final Signs of Determination

Finally, the most significant symbol of my resilience is this picture. Despite messing up in the first paper, I bounced back confidently in the second one. This was the sign of my unwavering determination and perseverance. I hope you found these insights as inspiring as I do.

Preparation Strategies and Resources

I was a decently bright student until 10th standard, and my passion for engineering naturally led me to prepare for JEE Advanced. My goal was to pursue electrical engineering from IIT Bombay, and I started my JEE preparation after 10th. I firmly believe that two years of dedicated preparation is more than enough to crack this exam with a good rank.

Coaching Institutions and Modules
Throughout my preparation, my main focus was on completing all assignments and modules provided by my coaching institution. Initially, I did get time to solve some extra material for more practice—DCP (I only completed the mechanics and optics part), HC Verma (I only solved a few questions), and IE Irodov (I solved almost all questions from the mechanics and electricity and magnetism sections). Ranjeet Shahi for physical chemistry, and I practiced only the solved examples and a few problems from the Advanced level.

Self-Study Resources
For Mathematics, Cengage was sufficient (I solved only a few algebra chapters). For Organic Chemistry, MS Chauhan served as a reliable resource. I didn't refer to any particular resource for Organic and Inorganic Chemistry theory as the notes provided by my teachers covered almost all the theory up to the Advanced level. JD Lee for Inorganic and Solomons Fryhle for Organic theory are also good choices.

Practice and Revision
One practice that I found truly helpful was maintaining a separate book for short notes for quick revision. This included important concepts, formulae, and some conceptual questions. Reaction charts also helped a lot, particularly in Organic and Inorganic Chemistry. I used to make monthly plans for thorough revision of each topic via these.

Additional Practice and Learning
Giving multiple AITS (All India Test Series) and Mock Tests during the last phase of preparation was crucial. AITS provide a wide exposure to numerous concepts and various types of questions. For additional practice and learning, I used to watch lectures by Physics Sir JEE and Physics with Akash Goyal. The quality of questions discussed there is commendable. I used to note down many good questions that I came across while solving assignments and while writing AITS.

Final Results
Despite extensive preparation and good performance in mock tests, I ended up with a 275 rank in JEE Advanced 2022 due to careless mistakes in chemistry and a lengthy mathematics section. Nevertheless, I am finally joining the Electrical Engineering program at IIT Bombay!

Conclusion

My story is just one of many, and I hope that by sharing my experiences, I can inspire others. If you liked my journey, you will surely be interested in my mistakes during preparation. Thank you for your support and upvotes!

Editor's Note

This was my first answer on Quora. Thank you to everyone who provided 200 upvotes. Many of you asked if I solved all the books, and I confirmed that most of the resources were provided by my father through JOSH. So, most of the books were bought, not solved comprehensively.
