My University Global Engineering Entrance Experience and Tips

My University Global Engineering Entrance (UGEE) Experience and Tips

Well... that reap paper was totally unexpected. Despite the unexpectedness, I managed to attempt 40 questions and found the paper to be pretty decent. I think the cut-off this year might either be reduced or remain constant. Only time will tell...

Approaching the exam was quite a different experience compared to my previous attempt. Last time, apart from 3 good questions typically asked about our interest in research, the branch, and IIITH's future plans, the process was much more comprehensive. This year, they focused more on basic introductions and math questions and it seemed like they will give more weightage to the REAP section of the written test.

The exam was a bit tougher than the Mains, yet I still managed to crack it decently. It was quite an experience, especially conducting it in my home city of Chennai, despite the intense lockdown due to the Coronavirus. I was relieved to have reached the exam center 1 hour early, but the discomfort with a mask and gloves was intense.

The paper was divided into two sections: SUPR and REAP. The SUPR section was slightly easier than the Mains, but the time constraint was a challenge. I managed to attempt only 46 out of 50 questions, but was confident about 37. Moving on to the REAP section, which was fun and challenging, I answered 27 questions with absolute certainty and 16 more with moderate certainty, while leaving the last 7 unanswered. Each question in the REAP section had a 2/-0.5 negative marking policy, which added some anxiety.

Post-exam, I was a bit scared, thinking I had guessed many questions, and that the negative marking would bite me back. On the way home, I swore I had made a perfect solution to a tough question, but I had made a grave mistake. It wasn't even a conceptual error but a simple miscalculation that certainly ranks among my top 10 dumbest and costliest mistakes. Later, I realized I had made two more silly errors. This demotivated me further.
