Navigating the Thrill of Board Exams: A Tale of Unexpected Results
Board exams can be a mix of excitement and anxiety, especially when you step into the 10th grade. In 2020, I experienced a roller-coaster of emotions, from the anxiety of the exam day to the shock of the unexpected results. Here’s my journey and what I learned from it.
Anticipation and the Journey to Board Exams
As a student in the 2024 batch at CBSE, I was eagerly waiting for my Class 12 results. The anticipation was real, as everyone was expecting the results to be declared on a much later date. However, CBSE announced that the results would be declared after 20th May. Then, within days, the results were declared on 13th May, a day earlier than expected.
The 10th Class Results Reveal
My overall percentage in the best of five subjects was 96.2, with a score of 95.4 in the main five subjects. Everything was as expected, except for English and Hindi. I never expected such low scores in these crucial language subjects. Sometimes, these subjects are neglected due to being language-based, but they significantly impact the overall percentage. The marks of English Language were 85, English Literature 91, Mathematics 93, Physics 96, Chemistry 83, Biology 91, History 95, Geography 93, Hindi 97, Environmental Studies 96, and Computer 95.
The Journey to Lifelong Lessons
Looking back, the journey to the 10th class results in 2020 was full of unexpected twists and turns. I recall the 10th batch from ICSE-ISC board, a group witnessing peculiarities. During the chemistry exam, I, who usually secured top marks in chemistry, was taken by surprise. The exam paper was shorter, and I only had 30 minutes to go over the questions. Despite thorough preparation, I couldn’t recall the answers, which felt like a nightmare.
The day after the chemistry exam, the council announced the exams would be postponed. Initially, it was a mixed feeling, and I didn’t know how to react. A few days later, we faced lockdown, and the exams were postponed further. Then, the exams were ultimately cancelled, adding to the uncertainty and anxiety.
Eventually, the news came on 9th July, informing that results would be declared on 10th July. The anticipation grew as the clock struck 3 PM on that fateful day. With some bravery, I checked the website and found my name along with my scores.
The marks I received were:
English Language: 85 English Literature: 91 Mathematics: 93 Physics: 96 Chemistry: 83 Biology: 91 History: 95 Geography: 93 Hindi: 97 Environmental Studies: 96 Computer: 95After calculating, my overall percentage in the best five subjects was 93.8, which was a pleasant surprise. Our celebration ended with delicious dishes and sweets.
Lessons Learned
This experience taught me valuable lessons about preparation, the unpredictability of exams, and the importance of subjects that might not always seem crucial. While I was glad to get good scores in Math, Physics, and Biology, I acknowledged the need to pay more attention to English and Hindi. Reflecting on these events, I realize the emotional journey of board exams is what truly tests our resilience and determination.
In conclusion, the 2020 experience has instilled in me a deeper sense of resilience and the understanding that unexpected results can sometimes lead to significant personal growth.
