Introduction to North Indian Student Population

While a small percentage of North Indian students can be found at Amrita University’s Amritapuri campus, their numbers are increasing exponentially every year. Although the college is predominantly populated by Telugu and Malayali students, there is indeed a growing community of North Indian students, making up approximately 4–5% of the total student body.

Personal Experience

As a North Indian myself, hailing from Dehradun, Uttarakhand, I can vouch for the authenticity of this statistic. Initially, one may feel a bit out of place, but this is a natural occurrence as you acclimate to a new environment. Over time, mingling with others, especially South Indian students, will make you integrate seamlessly into the campus life.

Making Friends and Adjusting

Don’t be discouraged if the North Indian population seems relatively small. There are numerous opportunities to connect with various sections of the student body. Hindi speakers can be found throughout the campus, and the supportive atmosphere encourages interaction and friendship.

Diverse Campus

It’s important to note that the campus is a melting pot of diverse nationalities and linguistic backgrounds. Many of these individuals, though hailing from the South, are part of a cultural transition where they have adapted their lives in North India. This means they too fall into the category of 'North Indians.' Therefore, the total North Indian percentage can be even higher than initially thought, in some cases reaching up to 15-20%.

Supportive Community

Despite being in the minority, North Indian students at Amrita University Amritapuri find substantial support from their peers. The campus has an accommodating and warm environment where students from all over India find camaraderie and support.
