Overcoming Challenges: Cooking for My Family During Lockdown
Introduction
During the lockdown, a period when I was confined to my home, I embarked on a new endeavor that had never before crossed my path: cooking for my family. While my parents had always provided me with the highest level of comfort, my kitchen skills were limited to the occasional snack from the fridge or helping my father in his occasional car maintenance or gardening. However, the prolonged period of isolation presented an opportunity for growth.
The Unfamiliar Territory
One day, as I found myself bored and with no new distractions, an idea hit me. I decided to venture into the kitchen and explore a new world entirely foreign to me. I started by browsing online for simple recipes and experimenting with basic ingredients. I suddenly found myself in a kitchen I hadn’t entered except to grab a snack or drink from the fridge. My mother was pleasantly surprised when she tasted the results of my cooking experiments, and the experience quickly became a cherished daily routine.
A New Routine and Bonding Experience
Initially, I was apprehensive, fearing that my kitchen skills were insufficient. However, I decided to take on the challenge with a positive mindset. I started with simple dishes, following online tutorials and gradually worked my way up to more complex recipes. My days were enriched by the process of meal preparation, not only lightening my parents’ workload during a stressful time but also offering a shared bonding experience over our meals.
Donating to the Community
As I gained confidence and my cooking skills improved, I started experimenting with more advanced recipes. One day, my father, who runs an NGO that serves food to the poor, suggested that I help in this cause. I took the initiative to cook meals and give them to the local beggars. This was the first time I had directly contributed to my community, a rewarding experience that solidified my newfound passion for cooking.
Conclusion
This lockdown has taught each one of us something new. We need to remember the invaluable lessons we have learned, one of which is the joy of connecting with family and contributing to the community through simple acts. It has not only enriched my experience but also fostered a sense of responsibility and gratitude.
