Personal Experience with KCET 2023: Challenges and Recovery Strategies

Horrible would be an understatement for this year's KCET fiasco. I had attended a whole month of mock tests with scores between 88-95. I didn’t expect much because I wasted time trying to clear JEE Main due to peer pressure. I saw the previous year's data and saw that around 95 in PCM boards and less than 100 marks would give a rank of 15K which I felt was enough. Given that KCET is conducted for 2 days - first day math and second day physics and chemistry, the score would be better than the mock test. But KEA made many horrible decisions. Assigning locations more than 15km from my area was a bad idea. Seeing the out-of-syllabus questions, I became fed up because none of the students even felt remorse or regret about the negligible paper setting, which made me fume with anger.

And my total KCET score was: 57/141. PCM boards:92, Rank:41788. I had written other entrance exams like PESSAT, RVSAT, and COMED-K. PESSAT rank:9k, I didn’t care about counseling as I didn’t even get Mechanical in PES-U. RVSAT: DIDN’T QUALIFY. COMEDK: 19125, expected around 14K, but still a decent/moderate rank to complete my basic need of getting into a college, Good college - lower course/Avg College - CSE branch.

Strategies for Improving KCET Scores

With tough decisions and unexpected questions, many students are left disappointed and demotivated. Here are some strategies that can help in improving KCET scores:

Review and Strengthen Weak Areas: After every mock test, review your answers and identify areas that need improvement. Focus on the weak areas and practice them thoroughly. Use Quality Resources: Utilize textbooks, online resources, and coaching materials that are specifically tailored to the KCET syllabus. Take Mock Exams Regularly: Consistent practice through mock exams is crucial to familiarize yourself with the exam pattern and to build confidence. Stay Updated with Syllabus Changes: The KCET syllabus can change from year to year. Stay informed about any updates to ensure your preparation is up to date.

Opting for Alternative Exam Routes

Given the disappointing outcome of KCET, many students like myself are exploring alternative exam routes for college admission:

PESSAT: I had written PESSAT, but didn’t qualify. This is an important exam to consider if you’re looking for college admission options. Higher Education Exams: In addition to PESSAT, other higher education exams like COMED-K and others mentioned can be considered.

My plans are to join either of these colleges through COMED-K:

Dayanand Sagar College of Engineering: Electronics Electrical Engineering Bangalore Institute of Technology: Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering DSATM DSCE 2nd Campus: CSE branches RNSIT: AIML Data Science and Cybersecurity JSSATE: CSE Branches BNMIT: AIML / ECE Dr. AIT: CSE Branches

Final Thoughts and Future Plans

Until then, I am working hard to recover from this catastrophic incident. My score was 100/141 in PCM and 122/145 in PCB. My board scores are 295/300 in PCM and 296/300 in PCB. Despite the rank inflation, I have kept my spirits high with the efforts and plans to get into a good college.

Edit: I have secured EEE in DSCE.

Edit2: I hope to get a CSE position in RNSIT.

Edit3: I have successfully secured a CSE position in RNSIT:

Any suggestions are always welcome.
