SVCE (Swami Vivekananda College of Engineering) and RMK (Raja Mukhia Kiran Institute of Technology) are two autonomous engineering colleges in India, known for their unique features and offerings. SVCE is esteemed for its flexibility and a hands-on approach to learning, while RMK is recognized for its strict academic discipline and depth of knowledge.

SVCE - A Life of Freedom and Flexibility

SVCE stands out for its freedom-oriented approach towards education. Here are some key advantages:

1. Liberty and Flexibility

You have the freedom to pursue your interests. Whether you are into sports, extracurricular activities, or exploration, SVCE provides a platform for all-around development. Freedom to bunk classes if you choose to do so, with a system called OAT (Optional Attendance Test) which supports this flexibility. No strict dress code; you can wear casuals like jeans, which is a relief for students who prefer comfort. No limitations on hairstyles or facial hair, allowing personal expression.

SVCE also offers a strong academic foundation with no spoon-feeding. The responsibility is on the students to take the initiative, and marks are solely based on your performance.

2. Opportunities and Scholarships

SVCE provides a remarkable opportunity for students with high CGPA (7.5 or above) and no history of arrears. With this academic performance, you can secure dual placements with a package of 3-5LPA (Rupees per annum).

In addition to this, the college offers a fully digital library with a vast collection of books and access to six books per semester at any time. There are also worthy scholarships for students who excel academically.

RMK - Academic Rigor and Depth

While SVCE is a breath of fresh air for many, RMK is known for its strict academic discipline and less emphasis on extracurricular activities. Here are the pros and cons of RMK:

Cons of RMK

Less emphasis on extracurricular activities compared to SVCE. No relaxation in terms of dress code or freedom to manage extra time. CCA (Community Corporate Awareness) classes are mandatory.

Location and Infrastructure

SVCE's distant location is a significant drawback for many students. It is located around 35 km from Chennai, making it difficult for students to commute daily. The nearest points are Guindy (35 km) and Poonamallee (12 km).

RMK, on the other hand, is situated closer to Chennai, making daily commuting more manageable for students. Despite this, it is still not the most convenient location, as RMK is in the outskirts of Chennai.

Both colleges have their respective canteens with manageable food options, though some students may prefer the NV (Non-Vegetarian) foods available at SVCE.

Raja Mukhiyan Hall (RMUKH), a chill-out spot, is also available at RMK, providing a good hangout space for students to socialize.
