Session Start for 2020-2021 MBBS and Engineering Students: Adjustments and Challenges

The academic sessions for MBBS and engineering students can vary significantly depending on the university, specific circumstances, and the impact of global events such as the COVID-19 pandemic. For the 2020-2021 cohort, many institutions faced significant disruptions, leading to delays in sessions, examinations, and admissions.

Adjusted Academic Schedules

As of my last knowledge update in August 2023, many universities had adjusted their schedules to accommodate these delays. However, specific dates for the start of sessions or comparisons to subsequent cohorts like 2021-2022 students would depend on the policies of individual universities. Typically, students from the 2020-2021 batch may face challenges in terms of placement opportunities or curriculum pacing compared to their peers in the 2021-2022 batch. However, institutions often try to support all students fairly, providing resources to help those who may have been disadvantaged by earlier disruptions.

For the most accurate and specific information, it is best to consult the official announcements from the respective educational institutions or relevant educational authorities.

MBBS Session Start in West Bengal

There is a noticeable shift in the start dates for MBBS and engineering programs across different regions and institutions. In West Bengal, medical colleges in February 2021 have resumed their academic sessions. The Neet Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a notice indicating that medical colleges will begin again on or before December 1, 2021. For the session 2020-2021, the commencement is scheduled for February 1, 2021, which is highly delayed, giving the 2021-2022 cohort nearly a 4-month head start. The first professional exams for the 2021-2022 session will be held in January 2022.

Engineering Classes Start for 2021 Batch

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have already started online classes for the 2021-2022 batch. National Institutes of Technology (NITs) will also commence their online classes on December 7, 2021. There will be a one-semester gap between the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 sessions for engineering students. This gap has been addressed by the academic authorities to align with the scheduling needs of these programs.

NMC 5-Year Schedule for MBBS

The NMC has released a 5-year schedule for the MBBS program, with the 2021 batch starting in February 2021. Prospective students can find the detailed gap and semester differences between the 2021 and 2022 batches by visiting the official NMC website. The first semester exams for the 2021 batch are planned for January 2022.

"The academic schedules have been designed to provide a balanced educational experience, despite the initial disruptions. Institutions are committed to ensuring that all students, regardless of the cohort, receive the necessary support and resources to succeed in their academic journeys."

For any further clarity or detailed information, it is recommended to refer to the official announcements from the respective institutions or the NMC website for the most up-to-date and accurate information.
