Sharing My IISER Experience: A Blend of Joy, Challenges, and Lifelong Memories

Lately, I received a query regarding my experience at IISER, and since I am still only a first-year student, I need to gain more insights and emotions to fully answer the question. However, I can share a glimpse of my journey so far, focusing on both the positives and negatives. This narrative covers my experiences at IISER Berhampur, IISER Bhopal, and my overall college life there.

My Time at IISER Berhampur

Hostel Living: Currently, I am an IISER Berhampur student residing in the on-campus hostel. For a first-year student like me, it has been a thrilling and joyful experience. Not only is it a hub for social activities, but it also provides a platform to interact with students from various parts of the country, leading to a rich tapestry of cultural experiences and friendships. My roommates from different backgrounds bring diverse perspectives, enhancing both my learning and social life.

Campus Life: The campus is bustling with activity, particularly during cultural festivals and events. From dance competitions to music concerts and plays, we engage in a wide array of activities that are both entertaining and educational. This rich cultural environment is unmatched and offers a blend of fun and learning.

Interactions with Friends: Building connections with fellow students is one of the highlights of my time here. We spend countless hours studying, discussing academic topics, and simply having fun. My friends and roommates have been an integral part of my journey, making the experience memorable and enriching.

My IISER Bhopal Journey

Campus Life and Facilities: My experience at IISER Bhopal has been a mix of enjoyable and challenging moments. The friends I have made here have been a significant source of happiness, and the campus offers incredible tech facilities, including an unequaled LAN and Ethernet speed of 1 Gbps. However, during the summer months, the campus takes on a neglected look, with cracked cricket grounds and a less vibrant atmosphere. Despite these minor drawbacks, the overall college experience remains outstanding.

Daily Routine: My life at IISER Bhopal follows a structured but flexible schedule. We usually have five working days a week, starting at 9:40 AM in CVRaman hall. Our days vary in length, with some ending as early as 1 PM and others finishing late into the evening. Evening activities include sports, study sessions, and social time.

Weekend Activities: Weekends are dedicated to exploring the city, bird-watching treks, and various recreational activities like hiking and picnics. While on campus, some of us enjoy quiet moments with friends, catch up on assignments, or simply relax with some favorite YouTube videos.

Academic Freedom: Unlike many institutes, IISER Bhopal encourages a self-driven approach to learning. While there is a prescribed curriculum, students are free to explore additional topics of interest, discuss with seniors or professors, and explore their passions. This freedom is highly valued and a significant part of the IISER experience.

Conclusion

While my experiences at IISER Berhampur and IISER Bhopal have been distinct, both have been invaluable. The combination of social, cultural, and academic experiences has left a lasting impression on me. College life is a rewarding phase that teaches not just about academics but also about resilience, camaraderie, and personal growth. If you are considering joining IISER, I strongly urge you to embrace every moment and make the most of this unique opportunity.
