The Excitement of Ramadan: Family Gatherings, Rituals, and Personal Growth
Anticipation and Family Bonding
As the month of Ramadan approaches, a wave of excitement washes over me, especially because it's a time for family gatherings and rituals. For me and my family, Ramadan is the best time of the year. We all come together to break our fast (Iftar) and have a hearty pre-dawn meal (Sehri). Not only do I mean my parents and cousins, but even my grandparents join us. We relish the time spent together, fostering family bonds and creating cherished memories.
Enjoying the Break from Routine
One of the highlights of Ramadan is the change in our routine. As a child, the lack of school and exams makes it a joyous holiday. I find this a perfect opportunity to unwind and indulge in various activities. I dedicate a lot of time to watch stories about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on YouTube. 'Iqra Cartoon' is a highly recommended channel. I also focus on reading the Holy Quran and praying more often for added blessings. My free time is filled with enriching activities that help me grow spiritually and mentally.
The Importance of Attention and Special Treatment
While being within a close relationship with God during Ramadan is a significant goal, as a 12-year-old, I still enjoy being noticed. Being younger, I used to receive a lot of attention and special Iftar preparations. However, as I have grown, I’ve noticed a decrease in this special treatment. Despite this, I find comfort in the awareness that my parents remember my significance in the household. It's a bittersweet realization, but it encourages me to deepen my spirituality without seeking validation.
Making the Most of Ramadan
Preparation and planning are essential for the month of Ramadan. For me, this involves studying a lot to avoid stress during the month. My exams are scheduled just after Eid, which adds to the pressure. Nevertheless, I strive to maintain a balance between my academic responsibilities and my spiritual growth. Staying focused and disciplined is crucial. I also stock up on regular Iftar snacks, partly due to the ongoing lockdown and partly to ensure I have no excuses to skip Iftar.
Despite my busy schedule, I make sure to find time to reflect and connect with Allah (SWT). The month of Ramadan offers a unique opportunity to introspect and improve oneself. I feel a change in atmosphere and greater internal awareness, which motivates me to pray on time and participate in additional acts of worship. It's not just about the religious aspects; it's also about personal growth and mental well-being.
Conclusion
As this blessed month of Ramadan approaches, it brings with it a sense of peace, joy, and spiritual fulfillment. Reflecting on the family gatherings, routine changes, and personal growth during Ramadan makes it an enriching experience. I pray that the blessings of this holy month reach every distressed soul and bring them peace and comfort. Allah (SWT) knows best.
