The Influence of Inspiring Teachers: Shaping Lives and Aspirations
Throughout our lives, the impact of certain individuals can be profound and enduring. For many, it is our parents, selflessly guiding us through life, while for others, it is the dedicated teachers who unlock the potential within us. For me, the transformative influence of my teachers has been instrumental in shaping my life and career journey.
My Father: The Eternal Role Model
First and foremost, it was my father, a towering figure in my life, who provided me with unwavering support and guidance. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit continues to inspire and guide me. His influence remains indelible, shaping my character and values throughout my childhood and into adulthood. Even though he passed away almost 47 years ago, the lessons he imparted during my formative years continue to resonate deeply.
A Mentor and a Role Model: Zappa’s Guruji
My journey of profound learning and inspiration began with Zappa's Guruji, the teacher in my fourth standard at Adarsh Vidyalaya in Vasai. Guruji's unwavering love for his students and his unique teaching methods left an indelible mark on me. His ability to instill immense confidence in his students was nothing short of miraculous. As a result, I emerged as the topper of the entire Thane District—of the erstwhile Bombay State—in 1956. Not only did I excel in my district, but I also stood first in the entire state of Bombay. This remarkable feat was a testament to his teaching and the confidence he instilled in us.
Engaging and Understanding Leadership: Kurvey's Head Master
During my middle school years at Kurvey's New Model High School in Nagpur, I encountered yet another influential figure, the Head Master, who taught me English as a third language in my eighth standard. Despite holding such a prestigious position, he was never authoritarian or harsh. His compassionate demeanor and fair nature endeared him to both students and teachers alike. Alas, I missed the opportunity to truly understand and emulate his patience and tolerance. Like many other aspects of life, I often find myself reacting impulsively to minor issues, whereas his composure continues to serve as a gentle reminder.
Educational Wisdom from Rustum Davar
In my professional life, I was fortunate to encounter Rustum Davar, who taught General Management in the DBM course in Bombay. His teaching was not just theoretical but imbued with wisdom and practical insights that have stayed with me to this day. During the final chapter of the course, he condensed the entire subject into a memorable 'mantra' of six Ws and one H. He emphasized that this knowledge would empower us to manage any task, project, or company and to be successful in any endeavor. His words have been a guide and an inspiration throughout my career. I have adhered to his teachings and have worked in almost all fields of company management, except the account department, and have implemented his advice faithfully.
Thanks to my fortunate encounters with these teachers, I have been able to shape my life in a meaningful way. Even at the age of 76, I retain the enthusiasm and drive that I felt during my younger years. Currently, I am completing a three-year degree course in Naturopathy and Yoga, and I plan to open my clinic in Nagpur shortly after completing my studies in December 2023.
Preeti Prabha, thank you for allowing me to share this profound experience. Your question on the impact of teachers in our lives is a wonderful start to a meaningful conversation. Let us celebrate and honor the individuals who have shaped us and inspired us to reach our full potential.
