These terms are not just names for fractions; they are closely tied to weight measurements and therefore have practical applications in daily life. In English, however, the term 'one-third' is the most precise and unambiguous way to express 1/3.

Fractions can also be expressed as percentages for easier understanding. For instance:

1/4 equals 25 percent. 1/2 equals 50 percent. 1/3 is equivalent to approximately 33.3333 percent.

These percentages can be easier for the general public to recall and use in practical situations, such as dividing a piece of cake or calculating discounts. Though it is not exactly 33.3333 percent, it is a close and easily remembered value.
