Unforgettable Memories of JNV: A Tale of Friendship, Spirit, and Nostalgia

Living in JNV (Navodaya Vidyalaya) can be a life-changing experience, filled with invaluable memories that shape one's life. Secret Chapter and Delights

One of the most cherished moments of my JNV journey came when we were in the 9th grade. Up until that point, I didn't particularly enjoy the school. However, things started to change gradually. My best memory from that period is the time we secretly brought chapatti, kurma, and butter milk from the mess.

We gathered in the evening, just us, a small group of fellow housemates, known as 9th Shivalaki, and we feasted on this clandestine meal. We even had honey, pickles, and jaggery that we brought from home. The crowning delight was the sour mangoes that we savored with a sprinkle of salt. It was a delightful experience.

In our friend's dairy, we wrote down all the things we talked about and the laughs we shared. These moments were special not only because of the food but also because we knew that next year, we would be in 10th grade, on the board class. And most poignantly, in the 11th grade, we might not be together in the same way. It made us cherish every moment even more as it marked a transition in our lives.

Engaging in Ghost Stories: Cultivating Imagination and Fear

When we were younger, in the junior classes, one of our favorite pastimes was telling ghost stories during garden time. These stories were a way for us to bond and let our imaginations run wild. It wasn't just about the stories themselves; it was about the closeness we felt with each other as we sat and shared these eerie tales. These moments were as memorable as the food and the bond we formed on that secret chapatti night.

Rituals and Traditions: The Thrill of Competitive Spirit

Being nominated for a prize in 8th grade was one of the highlights of my JNV journey. The thunderous applause I received for being third in my class was one of the proudest moments. The Most Beautiful Memory: Travelling to Kerala

The most beautiful memory of my JNV journey was when we traveled to Kerala for the basketball regional level meet. About 90 students from our Navodaya came together, and it was an experience that left a lasting impression. Not only did we enjoy each other's company, but we were also hit by the breathtaking beauty of Kerala's scenery. The combination of competitive spirit and the natural charm of Kerala made this trip truly unforgettable.

Trolling the Physical Education Teacher: A JNV Tradition

Just like every Navodaya student, we were known for our playful pranks and trolling the Physical Education (PET) teachers. JNV is notorious for such incidents, and my account of one such experience is no exception. One Diwali, when everyone was returning from home, our PET, who was a 'house master' of Nilgiri house, asked a senior from the same house to help with the registration of those who returned from home.

During the conversation, the PET made a request, which included drawing columns in the registration book for: 'Name,' 'Name of Parent,' 'Aravali time' and 'departure time,' as well as a 'signature' section. The senior, who was looking at me with a crooked smile, dutifully followed the instructions. This incident, now a part of the JNV lore, showcases the playful yet engaging nature of our community.
