Why I’m on Quora Today Instead of Celebrating Thanksgiving
Yesterday was just a regular workday, albeit swelteringly hot. Today, it’s a Friday morning in Australia, and Thanksgiving isn’t part of our festivities. So, I’m here on Quora to share my thoughts and perhaps interact with others in a way that doesn’t involve conventional holiday celebrations.
A Random Thursday
For me, today is simply another day. It’s not a holiday, and it doesn’t align with any festivals or rituals I’m actively involved in. The concept of Thanksgiving seems distant and doesn’t concern me.
Many countries, including the United States, celebrate Thanksgiving, but it’s not observed in many others, especially in places like Australia. Even if a country celebrates Thanksgiving, the timelines and the significance may be different from what others are familiar with.
Using Thanksgiving for Preparing Christmas
Instead of traditional holiday activities, I often take this time to prep for Christmas. This year, I’ve already wrapped up our Christmas gifts and shopped to ensure that we can send out our packages by the first week of December. It’s a pattern I’ve embraced, making the most of the time before the main holiday season.
Right now, I’m on my own with my husband. Given the size of my family, a quiet and peaceful evening with just us seems like a welcome break from the usual holiday bustle. We’re using this time to relax and enjoy the quiet, with no planned obligations until the next surprise delivery of Amazon orders.
Managing a Bustling Household
While some people prefer a quiet evening, I’ve been babysitting a group of 12 dancers and gymnasts aged 12 to 17. These young performers are busy rehearsing routines and discussing their interests, including my mother-in-law’s tattoos. The environment is lively, with music and excitement filling our household. However, tonight, they have chosen to enjoy a quieter night, with sleeping bags, pizza, milk duds, and lemonade, organized by my daughter and her husband.
It’s an unusual scenario, with a 14-year-old boy being the only boy in dance attending the girls' party. Despite the unusual situation, it appears that they are having a good time, at least until they wind down around 10 PM on the Pacific Coast.
This showcases the variety of holiday experiences people can have, and how technology allows us to connect even in such diverse environments. From quiet evenings to lively dance rehearsals, each person crafts their own unique holiday experience, sometimes on Quora or other online platforms.
Whether you’re celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, or any other holiday, remember that the spirit of these occasions can be found in the moments spent with those you care about. Whether it’s baking cookies, watching a movie, or simply enjoying a quiet night, the holidays are about creating cherished memories and connections.
So, whether you’re on Quora, preparing Christmas gifts, or engaging in your favorite holiday activities, take a moment to appreciate the people and experiences that make the holidays special for you. And, of course, have a wonderful time wherever you are and whatever you’re doing!
