Why Ohio Makes a Great Home in 2022: A Personal Perspective

Ever wondered about the best parts of living in Ohio in the year 2022? While my initial response to the question might come across as playful, being a proud resident who moved here from Massachusetts, I can share a wealth of positive aspects about this state.

The Best Seasons and Outdoor Activities

The quintessential experience for me in Ohio is the enjoyment of the outdoor life during spring, summer, and fall. Each season offers unique and enjoyable activities that are a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation.

During the warmer months, I love to kayak on the many rivers that traverse the state. Whether it’s a leisurely paddle or an adrenaline rush from rapids, the rivers are a haven for all kayakers. Fishing, swimming, and camping are as thrilling for me as they are for the countless visitors. Exploring waterfalls, open American mounds, and hiking through diverse terrains adds to the seamless blend of natural beauty and outdoor fun. And if biking is your passion, there are numerous trails to choose from, offering a safe and exhilarating way to explore Ohio.

Free State and County Activities

Another major advantage of living in Ohio is the abundance of free or affordable state parks and events. Unlike some states that require an entrance fee, Ohio’s state parks are accessible to all. This openness fosters a sense of community and allows residents to enjoy their natural surroundings without financial constraints.

County fairs and festivals are popular events that bring families together to enjoy traditional fair foods and various attractions. Attending family reunions and gatherings is another highlight of my Ohio experience. It’s heartwarming to say goodbye to old family members and welcome new additions to the family.

Local Attractions and Entertainment

Ohio is home to notable attractions that cater to different interests. For instance, I can revel in the presence of The Ohio State University and The Bitch in My Life (TBDBITL). The proximity to major league sports teams within a two-hour drive is another plus. Historical sites, museums, wineries, and brewhouses are spread across the state, making it a treasure trove of experiences.

Quality of Life and Community

Moving to Ohio from Massachusetts, I have discovered an entirely different quality of life. One of the most striking differences is the amount of property people own. Many of my neighbors have expansive land, to the point where their houses can almost disappear from view. The level of respect and camaraderie among neighbors is evident, especially in how they use their property for activities like shooting guns, something that would likely prompt significant police intervention in Massachusetts.

Another aspect I enjoy is the driving conditions. The highways are often empty, offering the opportunity to travel at higher speeds without the risk of being pulled over for speeding. The lack of traffic is a breath of fresh air compared to the dense traffic in Massachusetts, combined with drivers that seem to have a better grasp of road manners. A well-mannered and safer driving environment has made it easier and more enjoyable to navigate around the state.

I fully appreciate the balance between seclusion and accessibility in Ohio. While I am far from major cities like Columbus or Cleveland, I am still within easy reach of everything I need. Whether it’s grocery stores, gyms, pharmacies, or restaurants, I don’t find myself commuting long distances, which is a relief during stressful times.

In summary, living in Ohio offers a plethora of benefits, including a rich array of outdoor activities, affordable and accessible attractions, and a supportive and respectful community. These factors, combined with the quality of life and convenient living, make Ohio a wonderful place to call home in 2022 and beyond.
