Why Psychotherapy is Worth the Time and Money

Why Psychotherapy is Worth the Time and Money

The Unspoken Determination to Seek Help

In all the years I attended therapy—nearly 25 years—there wasn't a chance of talking myself out of it. My first therapist saw patients in the evening, and each commute took about 40 minutes each way. In those four years, there was never a missed appointment. With the subject running my entire life, I had no choice but to give therapy a good chance. Something simply had to be done.

The Role of Psychotherapy in Navigating Life's Challenges

My physical ailments were never-ending, and there were no firm reasons why they persisted. It was almost absurd how they disappeared within a matter of a few weeks. With therapy, returning to college was a major success. When I attempted it at 18, it nearly ended in disaster.

Empowering Personal Transformation

Four years of good solid therapy culminated when my therapist said, with a calm and confident air, ‘when I walked through the door that first evening, I was walking into the future with my face turned backwards. Looking into my past.' But when leaving, he remarked, ‘I was walking into the future with my head squarely looking into a brighter future.’

Overcoming Depression and Other Mental Health Struggles

Additionally, early on, I was diagnosed with clinical depression. Throughout the years, there were numerous changes in medication, dosages, and regular consultations with psychiatrists. They kept a close eye on breakthrough episodes and any side effects, emphasizing the need to stay the course for the remainder of my life.

The Impact on Personal Development and Business Success

No longer were my decisions based on immorality, inability to learn from my mistakes, short temper, erratic speech patterns, or a lack of self-esteem. Early on, I gained enough confidence to establish a business that I ran successfully for nearly 26 years. The list is endless, but the greatest gift of all is the return to my long-neglected faith and religion, which provided much comfort in and out of therapy.

The Unavoidability of Life's Circumstances

With expert guidance, prayers to God for the time to leave therapy, and prayers to return when needed, life has become more than I ever hoped for. Without goals, dreams, direction, and hope, life will inevitably be shorter than any person deserves, and I am sadly positive of that belief.
